The Politics of Rage - 45 Years LaterJan 1, 11:32 pm On March 16-18 I will be traveling to New York with friends to participate in the Left Forum. The event website describes this annual gathering as a time “to discuss differences, commonalities, and alternatives to current predicaments, and to share ideas for understanding and transforming the world.” This year’s theme is Occupy the World: Confronting Global Capitalism. Over the weekend there will be hundreds of panel discussions on dozens of topics—community organizing, participatory economics, fracking, theories of change. I will be participating in a discussion called The Politics of Rage – 45 Years Later. A few of us who were active in the years around 1967 will talk about what we were trying to do then and what we have learned since. What does a life committed to radical change look like? How do we act effectively today? What about the politics of rage and the turn to violence? I am also organizing a panel Practical Peace and Social Change to talk about how peace practices integrate daily life with movements for change, not wishfully but rigorously. I expect to come away from this gathering expanded, connected, and re-energized. You can find out more a Left Forum. Hope to see you there. |
